South Cambridgeshire District Council has been named as the best at recycling in the whole country.

Our recycling rate has leapt from 18% to nearly 51% at the end of September 2004, an incredible achievement for all South Cambs residents.

Sebastian Kindersley, environmental health portfolio holder, said "I would like to say a big thank-you to the residents of South Cambridgeshire whose excellent recycling efforts helped us to win this Award for Excellence."

How much have we recycled?

Over six months South Cambs has recycled more than it has sent to landfill. 

Textiles	97 tonnes	Books	30 tonnes
Glass	2,040 tonnes	Plastic	11 tonnes
Cans	237 tonnes	Paper	2,760 tonnes
Green Waste	9,930 tonnes	Total	15,105 tonnes

Amount of rubbish into landfill - 14,750 tonnes!!
