As part of the A14/A428 upgrades, traffic calming measures are to be installed in the nearby villages to discourage "rat-running" while the main road works are underway. The intended works for Elsworth are:
Give way schemes in Brockley Road and Boxworth Road
Gates would be installed on the verges and the road layout altered so that traffic entering the village must give way to traffic leaving, like the installation in Knapwell.
Interactive signs in Boxworth Road and Rogues Lane
These signs would illuminate and display the speed limit if speeding vehicles approached.
Speed cushions in Smith Street, Boxworth Road and Brockley Road
Small bumps (not the full width of the road) like those recently installed in Fenstanton.
Raised tables at junctions (by the Poacher and at Smith Street/Broad End)
30mph limit to be moved further out of village on Rogues Lane
Residents can view the plans for the traffic calming measures at the Parish Clerk's house by
appointment.
There is not yet a predicted date for when work will commence.
