Haven't you ever looked at your own feet and said "these are some funny thingies at the end of my legs!"? If you think about it, feet are quite complex anatomical structures meant for a task as simple as standing on them. If you look at your lamp, you will see it has a piece that is meant to keep it standing, but it's much simpler than a foot.
